Rwanda Case Study

On June 29, 2023, Sagamore Institute held a policy forum at Harvard University to share the lessons learned from Rwanda’s economic revival. Rwanda’s economy was decimated by the Rwandan genocide of 1994. But through private enterprise and smart economic development policy, Rwanda emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. Today, Rwanda is considered the third best place to start a business in Africa, behind Mauritius and South Africa, and is a leader in information communication and technology. Michael Fairbanks

Michael Fairbanks has been a Senior advisor to Rwandan President Paul Kagame since 2001 and currently serves on the President’s Advisory Council. He founded SEVEN Fund in 2005 and serves as Chair Emeritus of OTF Group, a Boston-based consultancy. He is also an active angel investor in life sciences and serves as board chairman for Akagera Medicines.

Dale Dawson

Dale Dawson is founder of Bridge2Rwanda. He serves on the President’s Advisory Council and previously helped launch a bank in Kigali in addition to other business and social enterprises. He is a former partner at KPMG and Head of Investment Banking at Stephens Inc. He also owned TruckPro later sold to AutoZone.

Dan Vogel

Dan Vogel is Director, North America of Boston Consulting Group’s Centre for Public Impact. Previously, Dan served as advisor to the founding CEO of the Rwanda Development Board and worked in the White House as a policy/private sector specialist.
