Meet Sagamore's Summer 2023 Interns

Sagamore is committed to developing the next generation of young leaders with a creative vision to pursue the common good and advance human flourishing. We welcome the following students who share a passion for championing free enterprise, fostering individual opportunity, and expanding democracy. 

about The internship program

  • Sagamore hosts interns throughout the year.
  • Interns partner with a Senior Fellow or staff member whose professional focus coincides with the applicant’s area of interest.
  • Interns access professional development opportunities and partners covering current public policy issues.
  • Interns tap into Sagamore’s network of scholars, staff, and community leaders.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants are ordinarily at least a rising sophomore; recent college graduates, master’s students, and law students are encouraged to apply as well.
  • Applicants must be able to work at least one semester. Preference may be given to applicants who are interested in longer-term internships.
  • International students authorized to work in the United States are also eligible.

Jim Dittoe • Citizenship

Jim Dittoe has had over thirty-five years of experience in the field of community and economic development, having been the Chief Executive Officer in Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development Councils in Ohio, Indiana (including Kokomo, Evansville, and Ft. Wayne), and Peoria, Illinois.

In 1995, Jim established Winning Communities™, Inc., an enterprise that helps communities and organizations envision the future and develop goals, measurable objectives, and action plans for achievement.

Jim was engaged by the NCAA Division II to expand its Community Engagement program of outreach for student athletes. The program is called The TEAM Initiative – Total Engagement Adds Meaning.

Jim is now working with Mayors and community leaders in Indiana and Ohio to help establish Youth Civic Engagement Councils to develop young leaders in cities and towns.

Deacon Fountain • Africa Portfolio

Deacon Fountain is a graduate student at the University of Indianapolis in the International Relations program. He enjoys learning about the rest of the world, sports, and history. This summer he looks forward to working on a project with Mr. Cassell and learning about Liberia in the process. 

Ty Harrington • Citizenship

Ty Harrington is a rising sophomore at the University of Notre Dame where he studies the Program of Liberal Studies and Philosophy & Theology. He is an avid reader of all genres and periods, though he has a particular interest in political and philosophical texts. He also enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and especially his dog. At Sagamore, he is most looking forward to joining and learning from a team that works at the forefront of economic policy in Indianapolis and the greater community.  

Morgan Rossman • National Security and Defense

Morgan Rossman is a student at Anderson University, majoring in national security and history. His interests include reading, creative writing, and travel. He is looking forward to being an intern at Sagamore for the opportunity to learn, network, and grow.

Andy SCheer • Criminal Justice Reform

Andy Scheer is a rising 2L at Indiana University’s, Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Andy studied religion at Huntington University and Theology and ethics at Emory University in the earlier parts of the 2000’s. Before returning to law school in 2022 Andy was a touring musician, winemaker and in sales for the worlds largest music retailer. This summer at the Sagamore Institute Andy will be researching justice reform in conjunction with the Indiana Public Defender’s Commission.

Ben Yates • Impact Investing

Ben Yates is a rising sophomore at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He is studying computational physics alongside an interdisciplinary PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) program. His interests include understanding different systems, from material to ecological, to Human as well as outdoor activities like mountain biking, skiing, and flyfishing. Ben is very excited about working alongside and learning from the other interns and the Sagamore team members this summer as well as getting hands-on experience in the social impact investing world.
