James White is the executive vice president of organizational relations for the Triangle Area YMCA in North Carolina and the Senior Consultant of Equity and Curriculum Development for the Equity and Innovations Center of Excellence located in Minneapolis. In 2017, he was appointed by the governor as chairman of the North Carolina Dr. Martin Luther King Commission.

In 2009, he received the Cameron Award for Writing Excellence in recognition of an article he wrote in the Association of YMCA Professionals journal, Perspective Magazine.

James is an adjunct professor as Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and  teaches a class on social justice and race. He has also served as a consultant for a number of nonprofit and for profit companies using a narrative approach to understand  culture and race.
