citizenship

Our nation was founded on the idea that citizens would be at the center of the American Experiment. That means citizens need to be informed and engaged for our democracy to survive and thrive. It also means that all sectors in society must be healthy—a government that preserves order, a marketplace that fosters growth and inclusive opportunity, and a civil society that is formed by caring neighbors and civic innovators. Sagamore’s Citizenship portfolio helps us understand our traditions and equips the next generation to do their part in making a more perfect union.

Indiana conference on citizenship

“Well done, Indiana.” That was a telegram that Gov. Oliver Morton received from President Lincoln in response to the state’s extraordinary contribution to protect the Union. The same could be said by successive presidents in recognition of the way Hoosiers contribute to the greater good of the nation and the world. The Indiana Conference on Citizenship is held annually to celebrate exemplary citizenship and to put a spotlight on citizen-led strategies to some of the state’s greatest challenges.
