Development Director | Job Description

We are seeking a Development Director to serve a dual role supporting Sagamore’s development operations and Christian ministries in Central Indiana through our partnership with Mission Increase. Mission Increase is a national organization that equips donors, nonprofits, and churches to multiply their collective Kingdom impact through a biblical approach to fundraising. The Development Director will oversee the activities of Mission Increase in Central Indiana and is responsible for the successful implementation of training and coaching programs. In support of Sagamore Institute, the Development Director will help plan and implement a fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization.

Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Job Functions: The Development Director is required to perform a range of duties, including:
Mission Increase Responsibilities (50%):
- Organize, promote and lead multiple half day workshop every quarter utilizing MI curriculum that teaches a biblical approach to fundraising; this includes recruitment of ministry leaders, managing registration and teaching workshops
- In between workshops, engage in ongoing group and 1:1 training with ministry leaders utilizing the MI curriculum and the Director’s own fundraising experiences and understanding of biblical generosity
- Assist in forming an advisory board and work to acquire new funding for the sustainability of Mission Increase in Central Indiana
Sagamore Institute Responsibilities (50%):
- Partner with the Chief Executive Officer and President to identify funding needs, preferred targets and approaches; provide development coaching and support to these senior leaders
- Conduct research and prospecting to multiple donor sources and advise Sagamore on marketing, communication and cultivation tactics
- Work with operations staff to improve fundraising procedures, including optimization of Sagamore’s donor database (Salesforce) and the donor acknowledgment process
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
The Development Director should have a passion for supporting Christian ministries in Central Indiana and a desire to see charitable organizations reach their potential. Four-year college degree preferred with at least 3 to 5 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified:
- Knowledge of biblical stewardship and fundraising
- Working knowledge of nonprofit management principles and practice
- Strong people skills and a supportive, pastoral heart
- Gifted in public speaking; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Strong administrative skills and use of personal computers and related software applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint mastery are required)
- Ability to analyze, solve problems and manage an office budget
