A New "Academical Village"

In tandem with establishing our headquarters in Indianapolis, Sagamore opened a field office in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2004. The home of Thomas Jefferson seemed like the perfect complement to our heartland roots since we are dedicated to extending national influence from our places of local innovation.

Jefferson’s idea of the “academical village” resonates even more deeply in Sagamore’s story. His architectural designs called for faculty townhouses to be interspersed with student apartments, enabling the transfer of wisdom in the community and not just the classroom. This mirrors Sagamore’s scholars working alongside citizen innovators across the globe.

Sagamore’s offices in Indiana and Virginia, as well as our “distributed network of scholar-practitioners,” advance our mutual commitment to impact and influence.

We also expand our community to include leaders of character we are honored to serve and journey alongside through the Sagamore Network. The Network brings together a diverse coalition of policy experts, advisors, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and impact investors committed to addressing major societal challenges. United by shared values—a solutions-focused approach, a commitment to leveraging influence for the greater good, and deep respect for human dignity—our members collaborate to create meaningful change.

Over two decades, Sagamore has hosted dozens of senior fellows from government, academia, business, and civil society who combine innovative thinking with the practical expertise needed to implement solutions worldwide. As the U.S. partner for the FORUM Network, which originated in London, Sagamore connects accomplished senior leaders across sectors who seek to maximize their positive impact on society. We currently operate in New York City, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Dallas, and Boston.

The needs and opportunities for the Sagamore Network have never been greater. As new members join our community, the potential for impact grows daily. To steward this expansion, Blair Milo will transition from leading Sagamore’s Center for Talent and Opportunity to serve as the Network’s first director. Drawing on her experience as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy, Mayor of La Porte, Indiana, and Indiana’s first Secretary of Career Connections and Talent, Blair will continue her work as a Senior Fellow leading the Goldsmith Prize for Innovation in Local Government while developing new opportunities to inspire, equip, and grow the Sagamore Network. Her focus will include deepening transatlantic relationships between the Sagamore and Forum Networks across the U.S., UK, and affiliated countries.
